Chemical Security in Post-9/11 New Jersey
In the January 2006 issue of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, counsel Steve Barnett, a member of the firm's Corporate Law and Transactions, Environmental Law, and Mass Tort and Toxic Tort Litigation practice groups, evaluates the November 29, 2005 modifications to New Jersey's 2001 Domestic Security Preparedness Act. With the recently-devised "Chemical Sector facilities" classification and the corresponding enforcement of Chemical Sector Best Practices, these requirements impose new regulations throughout the chemical industry-with provisions affecting such diverse elements as inventory maintenance, risk assessment and information sensitivity. In his article New Jersey's Chemical Security: Best Practices and Open Questions, Barnett explores some of the intricacies of these chemical security measures which are intended to thwart potential terrorist attacks.
